Today I discovered these little gems on the backsides of my paintings. The pigment flowed underneath the wood and formed these lovely patterns, which I am determined to try and recreate (on the front!).
I am going to have to get scientific and re-create the exact set-up in order to get them where I can use them! I've already tried once and it didn't work b/c I was impatient - but we'll see!
I find these works strongly attractive and intellegent. Getting around the hand/concious mind or using them minimally seems key to this type of engaging artwork. Dealing with authentic life/death/Buddhist issues also seems important to me. Life as art; lately I see things like walking by the ocean, in a meditative state of mind, as art in a Beuys kind of way. michael B
Michael, have you ever seen the work of Richard Long? His work is about taking a walk but is characterized by elements of the sublime (infinity, repetition). Really engaging work. I saw a vid of him doing one of his pieces in the Sahara Desert (I think) and it completely changed my opinion of conceptual/performance type art. And of course there's Beuys !
